Biography

Desi LaDale Ellis Smith was born July 23, 1990 in Vicksburg, Mississippi (Warren Town) to Mr. Desi Smith and Ms. Geraldine Ellis.

Desi was an extremely happy, gifted, and mischievous child, with a beautiful spirit and a warm personality. His pleasant sense of humor brought much joy to both of his parents and as a result he grew into a most magnificent man of God.

Desi graduated from Warren Central High School and was well loved by all his friends. Desi enjoyed playing video games of wrestling and basketball and frequently watched reality shows. The LA Lakers, Kobe Bryant and LaBron James were his favorite basketball team and players.

In the autumn of 2016, on November 3, Desi met the love of his life, Ms. Africa Sisk to whom he eventually devoted his entire life to.

Desi and Africa were married on May 20, 2018. To this union was born one beautiful, lively, energetic, creative, daughter to whom they gave the name Desica Amaya Joy Smith. Born November 27, 2018. Her spirit, love, and zest for life now embodies the same spirit, love, and zest for life as her loving fathers’. Desi was an excellent husband, father, son, brother, relative and friend. Desica is The Legacy of Desi Smith.

Desi worked at Sawyer Law Firm as a custodian in the year 2018. He was faithful to his employer until such time as he was no longer able to work.

Although Desi was baptized at the age of 10 years old in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Desi re-committed his life to Jesus Christ on March 22, 2017 and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on November 11, 2017, under the pastorage of Elder Rodderick Jones of New Living Hope Apostolic Church. Desi’s re-commitment to Christ marked the born again beginning of his new life and he lived the remainder of his life dedicated to God, his wife, his family, and to his Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

Desi departed this life on September 18, 2020 in the arms of God and of his beloved wife, Mrs. Africa Smith, whom he leaved to mourn his passing along with his beloved daughter, Desica; his father and mother, Mr. Desi Smith and Ms. Geraldine Ellis; a loving sister, Ms. Sherika Ellis; a favorite nephew, Mr. Clyde Wendell Mazie, Jr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. Mark Riley and Ms. Ophelia Sisk and a host of relatives and friends. A special tribute and honorable mention are also due to his best and lifelong friend, Tashad “Dee” Daniel.

Desi‘s maternal and fraternal grandmothers, Ms. Thelma Jean Ellis and Ms. Diana Smith along with both of his grandfathers preceded him in death. Mr. Willie J. O’Neal and Mrs. Ruthie Mae O’Neal, his grandparents-in-law also await him in Heaven.
