Biography

Susan Kay Ginther, age 71, passed away peacefully September 18, 2020 at home under Hospice care due to metastatic breast cancer.

She was born November 16, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Junior Leo and Florence Donovan. She is one of six “Donovan Girls.” She married Roger John Ginther Jr., on August 15, 1981 in Washburn, Iowa. Together, they share just one (because they got perfection on the first try) daughter, Melissa Leann Ginther. But none of the aforementioned matter quite as much as her two “little sweethearts”, her grandchildren, Sophie Matlock and Cederick “Ceddie” Matlock Jr.

Sue was a nurturing soul, providing a listening ear and helping hand to all her nieces, nephews, daughter, daughters friends and grandchildren as long as she was able to do so. She spent the majority of her career working in Admissions and IT at Allen Memorial Hospital on the weekdays, and packing an old Astro Van to the ceiling full of totes of air fresheners disguised as farm animals and hand sewn EVERYTHING to travel the state doing craft shows with her sister on the weekends.

In her later years, she spent her days on the phone chit-chatting with anyone who would listen, hanging up and then calling the next individual to tell them everything the last caller had told her, all while crocheting wash rags by the tote-full. Not a single soul in the cedar valley should be without a hand towel thanks to Sue

Sue is survived by her husband, Roger; daughter, Melissa; grandchildren, Sophie & Cederick Matlock Jr.; Sisters, Nancy Shatz, Mary Fordyce, Joyce Anderson, and Carolyn Oster, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents Florence and Junior Leo Donovan; a sister, Lyla Fouts and her grandchildren’s father, Cederick ”Joe” Matlock Sr.
