Obituary for Randy Marvin Anderson

Randy Marvin Anderson, age 63, of Waterloo, died September 13, 2020 after a long battle with dementia.

Randy was born on November 19, 1956, the son of Marvin and Joyce Anderson. He grew up in Janesville and later moved to Altoona where he graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1976. Randy was the oldest of five children, Rick, Ronnie, Rusty, and Rhonda.

On August 1, 1981, he married Rosie Wirtz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Randy was romantic, enjoyed dancing, and often bought roses for Rosie. They had two children, Jennifer and Melissa. His children remember him as a selfless, hard-working father. The family moved from Waterloo to Grundy Center and later Randy and Rosie returned to Waterloo. He loved being Grandpa and Papa to Natalie, Kaelyn, Lucas, and Meleah. They were the center of his world and he enjoyed playing with them outside, taking them on lawn mower rides, fishing, and sledding.

Randy worked as a plumber and pipe-fitter with Viking Pump for 33 years, retiring in 2012. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was also a generous man who loved helping others, so he often used his handyman talents to help family, friends, and the church. Randy volunteered at Prairie Lakes Church, and taught Celebrate Recovery classes, a prison ministry program at Heartland Vineyard Church, where he shared his love for the Lord with others.

Throughout Randy’s life, he enjoyed raising parrots, collecting antiques, and restoring wood burning stoves. He enjoyed being outdoors, riding his Harley, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and grandkids. He kept busy working in his garage and working on projects around the house.

Randy is survived by his wife, Rosie Anderson of Cedar Falls; daughters: Jenn (Tim) Wolfe of Hudson, and Melissa (Brian) Sinnwell of Nashua; grandchildren: Natalie Sinnwell, Kaelyn Wolfe, Lucas Sinnwell, and Meleah Wolfe; mother, Joyce Anderson of Altoona; siblings: Ronnie Anderson of Altoona, Rusty Anderson of Olathe, KS, and Rhonda Anderson of Altoona.

He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Anderson, and brother, Rick Anderson.
Visitation will be held at Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls on Saturday, September 19th from 2:00-3:00 pm with a celebration of life service following. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Randy’s life.
