Harry Nix
Harry Nix was born September 6, 1940 in Tchula, Mississippi; the son of Harry and Mamie (Wade) Nix, Sr. He was a hand’s-on man. At an early age he picked cotton to help support his family. He also became a self-taught mechanic, fixing anything that was broken.
In the late 80’s Harry relocated to Waterloo, Iowa where he continued to make his mark as the town’s best car mechanic. Beyond his handy work, he enjoyed riding his tractor, cutting the grass, fishing, cooking, fish fry’s, listening to the blues, hanging out with the guys in the garage and anything that involved getting his family together.
Harry passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at his home at the age of 79. Harry is survived by four sons: Alvin (Shelly) Nix, Sr of Leesburg, VA, Donald (Teresa ) Nix of Waterloo, Tim (Kim) Nix of Waterloo and Marlon Nix of Waterloo; three daughters: Kim (William) Baker of Waterloo, Jeanette Nix of Waterloo and Amanda (Tim) Jefferson of Greenwood, MS; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Harry Nix, Jr. and Robert Proctor; three daughters: Mary S. Nix-Theroith, Evelina Nix and Gina Proctor and two sisters: Juanita Henderson and Rosie Sims; a granddaughter, Lashawn Nix; and his longtime companion Victoria Washington.
