WATERLOO, IOWA - Helen Swartz, 90, of Friendship Village, died Jan. 4, 2009. Helen Louise Morris was born near Lenox, Iowa, on Jan. 31, 1918, daughter of Charles and Mary Beck Morris.

She graduated from Lenox High School in 1935; from St. Joseph Missouri Business University, and received her Missouri and Iowa teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo. She then taught K-8 grades in several school districts in southern Iowa for six years.

Helen and Clark R. Swartz, Jr. were married at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Chicago, celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 14, 2008. While her husband was in the service she entered Civil Service as a supervisor in the Navy Bureau of Ships, Washington, D.C. They then farmed three years in Lenox and 50 years south of Hudson.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Roger (Dr. Mary Laughlin) and daughter Maggie of Iowa City and son Ben of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Mardell Munier, and sons, Nathan and Samuel of Chicago; a sister, Virginia Walker of Greeley, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Jean Morris of Corning and Clella Lindfield of Omaha, Neb.; two nieces and two nephews.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Morris of Lenox and Leonard Morris of Corning; a nephew, Stephen Morris; a niece in infancy, Deborah Morris; a sister-in-law, Vivian Morris; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Walker and Francis Swartz.

There will be no visitation or service.

Inurnment will be at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
