J. Ruben Villalpando, 52 of Waterloo died, Wednesday August 5 at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born July 25, 1968 in Guanajuato Mexico, son of Ruben and Sara Bolanos Villalpando Mata. He married Maria Guadalupe Villalpando December 26, 1995 in Mexico.

Ruben owned and operated the El Sol Mexican Restaurant in Waverly.

He is survived by his wife; his parents, Ruben and Sara Villalpando; his sons, George R. Villapando and Ivan Villalpando; his daughter, Julissa Villalpando; his brother, Raul Villalpando of South Carolina and his sisters, Maria Villalpando and Perla Villalpando of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenessy Sophia Villalpando, and a brother, Humberto Villalpando.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Anyone attending either the visitation or the service, please wear a mask.
