R.K. “Rollie” Sverdahl, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 29, 2020, at MercyOne Waterloo.

Rowland Keith Sverdahl was born May 9, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Iver and Amanda Hagen Sverdahl. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1949 and Gates Business College in 1950.

He married Jacqueline Luehr on November 9, 1950; they later divorced. He married Carol Ann Andersen on March 13, 1981, in Waterloo.

Rollie served in the United States Air Force 1951-1952 during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he joined Peoples Savings Bank (later known as Peoples Bank & Trust) as a teller. He became President in 1970 and resigned as Chairman of the Board & CEO in October 1986.

He moved to Florida, and in 1988 established Environmental Purification Technologies Inc., a sales and service company. In 1990, he established Triatomic Industries Inc. and began manufacturing a variety of portable and central air purification systems. Rollie sold his business in 2002 and returned to Waterloo.

He was past President of the Waterloo Association of Credit Men; a member of Waterloo Exchange Club, Goodwill Industries, and Exceptional Persons Inc.; past Treasurer of Zion Lutheran Church; past Board member of Schoitz Memorial Hospital, Salvation Army, Upper Iowa University, and Conway Civic Center; past member of the Black Hawk County Board of Review; and a member of several state and national banking committees.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Billie Jo (Dave) Thomas of Fairfax, VA, and Debra Sue (Michael) Bancroft of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sons, Jeff Lee (Laurie) Sverdahl of N. Palm Beach, FL, and Eric (Andersen) Sverdahl of W. Palm Beach, FL; two step children, Kelli Sue (Stephen) Hubert and Thad Louis Andersen, both of Waterloo; three granddaughters; a grandson; and two great grandchildren.

Rollie is preceded in death by his parents.
