James E. Barnes

December 21, 1952 - June 2, 2020

James E. Barnes. 67, died Tuesday, June 2, at Mercy One, Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born December 21, 1952 in Goodman, Mississippi, the son of James and Bobbie Jean Barnes.

James graduated from River Hills School in Cedar Falls and was a customer service associate with Goodwill for 45 years, retiring in September 2019. He called everyone he met a friend. He always had a smile on his face and a helping attitude for everyone he assisted at Goodwill.

He is survived by a brother, Steve (Sherry) Barnes of Cedar Falls; four sisters: Delorise Barnes Vickers, Munster, Ind., Lillie Barnes Simpson, Evangelist Rachelle Barnes Riley both of DesMoines, and Bessie Smith of Calumet City, Ill.; many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Preceded by his parents, a loving brother- in- law, Augustus Vickers, grandparents, Thorton "Jack" Gary, Georgia Mabry Gary, Joe and Fannie Barnes.

Services: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic services will be held privately at the funeral home. We are only allowed to have 50% of our capacity, which is limited to 50 people.

Special thanks to, Sammy and Willia Matlock, Mrs. Lessie Rideout, Marran and LaSonia Jackson.

Memorials may be directed the family.

“James was one of a kind; he was always surrounded by family and friends. He loved bowling and watching sports, the Cubs, Hawkeyes, Dallas Cowboys, and his nephew, Jalen playing football for UNI. He often spent special time with his sister Lillie, his nephew Eric and nieces, Brittney and Samaria. He was loved by his nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. James will be dearly missed.”
