Biography
Billy Wayne "Bill" Foulk, 83, of La Porte City, Iowa, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, in Waterloo, Iowa, on Thursday, May 28, 2020.
Bill was born July 27, 1936, on the farm in La Porte City, son of William Wayne and Velma Rourke Foulk. Bill’s mother died when he was 2 and he was raised by Orrie and LaRue Foulk.
He graduated from Orange Consolidated High School in 1953.
Bill married Marcella "Sally" Wagner on July 21, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She died March 29, 2017.
He farmed outside of Washburn and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Bill was a train enthusiast. He loved the Rock Island line and model HO trains, having set up a grand display in his basement years ago. He enjoyed Railroad history, traveling to see and ride on various trains. A highlight for him was riding the Amtrak to Colorado a few years ago. Bill enjoyed fishing in Minnesota for several years with family and also in more recent years, his yearly winter trip to Florida. Sally was the planner, and Bill was happy to go along for the ride. Together they traveled on many vacations and road trips to see out-of-state family.
If there was a special event for the grandchildren or great grandchildren, they were there. In February a highlight for him was attending his grandson's retirement from the Air Force in Oklahoma. He was the master of all storytelling, oh the stories he could tell. He was the family historian and was always eager to share how things were "back in the day.” Bill enjoyed his daily morning coffee with his brother Randy, telling him all about his latest research on his GrandPad device. Family was very important to him.
He enjoyed supporting and teaching his grandchildren in various ways over the years. Bill liked watching sports on TV, especially the Cubs and Brewers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and horse and dog racing. He got a kick out of feeding and watching his "pet" crows and critters from his dining room window. In earlier years, he always kept a garden and loved tending to his flowers, starting many flowers from seeds in his basement. Bill was proud to be a farmer; he loved working his family farm.
Bill is survived by his 3 daughters, Connie (Al) Frain of Portage‚ WI, Julie (Kevin) Lichty of Waterloo, and Sheri (Al) Fenner of Grinnell; a son, Brian (Rae) Foulk of Vinton; adopted daughter, Kelly (Matt) Russell of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, Lt.
