Biography

Leroy (Roy) A. Rousselow, life long resident of Blackhawk County, passed away May 16, 2020 at Friendship Village Pavilion.

Leroy was born in Hudson,Iowa to Clarence and Maryette (Engamells) Rousselow on Dec. 23,1921. Leroy graduated from Orange Township High School in 1941 and married Mildred Maxine (Raudabaugh) Rousselow on November 29,1942 at the South Waterloo Church of The Brethren. They thought it was special that Leroy was a handsome basketball player and Maxine a cheerleader.

Leroy worked at John Deere prior to being drafted during WW II. Upon discharge, he returned to take over Rousselow Hatchery from his Father Clarence. Leroy and Maxine owned and operated Rousselow Hatchery on La Porte Road in two different locations retiring in 1988.

They built a home on Brentwood Avenue surrounded by open fields in the 1950’s and lived there until moving to Friendship Village in 2002. The family enjoyed vacationing at Okoboji while the daughters were in school and later in Arizona, Myrtle Beach South Carolina and California. Leroy was an avid golfer and fisherman.

Leroy was the last of the Rousselows of this generation being predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Virgil and Leonard and one nephew, Dean Rousselow. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, his two daughters DiAnn (John) Kohler of San Diego and Denae (Larry) Blair of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Kim, Chris, Dawn and Matt and six great-grandchildren as well as 15 nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will take place at Orange Township Cemetery.
