Deborah's Obituary

Deborah Ruth Behrens was born on May 5, 1961 in Austin, Texas, afflicted with Down's Syndrome. Debbie was non-verbal all of her life. Her family moved to San Antonio in 1968 where she attended special education classes until she graduated at 21.

Then she was cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Dedeker while her mother taught many years at John Marshall High School. Debbie and her mother were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church in downtown San Antonio. After her mother retired, Debbie took a Via Trans bus to the Unicorn day-care operated by Mission Road Ministries until October of 2010 when she was cared for by Mission Road Ministries in a group home for five years.

She then resided in Care Choice of Boerne until her death on May 10 at the age of 59 years. Debbie enjoyed listening to music, helping her mother with the mail, swinging, taking road trips and visiting relatives.

She is remembered for her obedience, patience, the grace and dignity with which she bore her affliction and her easy contentment. Debbie was surrounded by love her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn William Behrens, Sr (formerly of Cedar Falls), her mother, Agnes Dorothy Behrens and an older sister, Patricia Ann Behrens Steen. She is survived by her older brother, Glenn William Behrens, Jr and many cousins.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
