Shirley Malis

Shirley (Spencer) Malis, 103, of Independence, passed away on February 25, 2020 at ABCM Rehabilitation Center of Independence.

Shirley Spencer was born November 16, 1916 in Flint, Michigan to Ray and Mamie Spencer. In 1952, she married Leo Malis. They lived in Michigan until 1971 when they moved to Florida.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo; a brother, Bruce Sutherland; two sisters, Frances Spencer and Betty Obert; a son, Charles Adams; a daughter, Joan Tappan; a son-in-law, Gerald Tappan; and by three grandchildren: Rusty Patterson, Mike Tappan, and Kevin Tappan.

Shirley is survived by a son, Bob Maliszewski; two nieces; five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo on Monday, March 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with service starting at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will occur on Thursday, March 5, at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Beverly Hills, Florida.
