Jesup, Iowa – James L. Kennicott, 90 years old of Friendship Village, Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Jesup died Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the Friendship Village Health Center in Waterloo.

He was born April 19, 1929, in Brandon, IA, the son of Cato Kennicott and Rose (Beachler) Kennicott. He attended school in Independence and graduated from the high school there. On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ann E. Grasso in Oelwein, IA. They made their home in Oelwein until 1966, when they moved their family to Jesup. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he began working at the John Deere Foundry in Waterloo. He retired as a supervisor there in 1984 after 29 years. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 in Jesup.

Jim was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds at the Jesup Country Club where he was a Charter Member. He loved sports of all kinds and enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes or watching his children and grandchildren participate at any level.

Jim is survived by two sons, Michael (Karla) Kennicott of Loudon, TN, Tony (Sue) Kennicott of Rockledge, FL; two daughters, Roxanne (Dean) Masteller of Jesup, Beth (Ken) Pridgeon of Dickinson, TX; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildrenand one daughter in law, Kathleen Kennicott of Dysart, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ann (October 6, 2012); one son, Charles Kennicott; one sister, Ruth Stewart and 2 brothers, Don and Bob Kennicott.

Services will be 10:30 am – Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA with Fr. Jeffrey A. Dole as celebrant. Music will be by Monica Bengston and the St. Athanasius Choir. Casket Bearers will be Brent Kennicott, Jason Limmex, Eric Masteller and James Masteller, Jed Eichhorn, and Corey Trainer. Burial will be at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 pm Sunday, March 1st at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
