WATERLOO — Joseph L. Gruver, 87, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, June 27, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Waterloo, son of Isham P. and Myrtle Chase Gruver. He married Rose Chevalier on June 19, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. She died Dec. 23, 1981.

Mr. Gruver was employed by John Deere for 34 years, retiring in 1971. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by: two nieces, Judy Weston and Lynda Cose, both of Waterloo; and a special friend, Mary Jane Lee of Waterloo.

Proceded in death by: two brothers, Arthur and Cecil and two sisters, Blanche and Hazel.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel-downtown, with burial in Garden of Memories. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials: May be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
