Obituary for Kathryn A. Dix
Kathryn Agatha Dix, 99, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at NewAldaya in Cedar Falls.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Chapel at NewAldaya, 7511 University Ave, Cedar Falls, IA. Visitation will held at the chapel prior to the service from 10am to 11am. Lunch will follow.
Kathryn was born December 1, 1920 to C. Henry and Silvia M. (McDonald) Hansen in New Hartford, Iowa. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1938. She married the love of her life, Donald Dix, on March 14, 1941. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Ron and Mary.
Kathryn worked for the majority of her career as an office manager and nursing assistant for Dr. Everson in Shellrock, Iowa. She was an active member of the New Hartford community. While her children were growing up, she often volunteered at school functions and community events. For decades, she was involved in numerous activities at the United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir. She was also an officer for the local chapter of the Eastern Star.
Kathryn and Donald were married for 61 years until Don’s passing in 2002. Over the years, they enjoyed traveling, music, weekends at the Mississippi River, winters in Florida, fishing trips to Minnesota, gardening, and spending time with family. Kathryn loved to sing and had the most beautiful alto voice. She was a wonderful cook. She loved Jesus, Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball, flowers, the color purple, reading, playing cards, and spending as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren. Kathryn had a great sense of humor, a sunny smile, and a bright and caring personality. She was loved by everyone and will be dearly missed.
Preceding Kathryn in death are her parents, husband, five sisters: Helen Corwin, Irene Doeden, Jeanette Wolf, Lois Timion, and Doris Posekany; a brother, Dyer Hansen; and daughter Mary (Dix) Teel.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Dan Teel, of Cedar Falls; son, Ron (Ruth) Dix, of Boise, ID; nine grandchildren: Chad Teel, Jennifer Kramp, Ryan Teel, Nick Teel, Brian Dix, Lynn Dix, Jon Dix, Sara Dix, and Bethany Dix; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the NewAldaya memory care staff for the wonderful care and love that they provided to Kathryn during her time as a resident. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to NewAldaya, 7511 University Ave. Cedar Falls, IA, 50613.
