Eric S. McCullough was born in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada on August 2, 1925, the oldest of 2 sons born to James and Jean (Gillian) McCullough. He spent a year with his family in their home country of Northern Ireland from 1937-38, where he attended school and was able to enjoy time with his extended family. It is there that Eric came to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior on March 14, 1938. He re-emigrated to North America, settling in Bridgeport, CT, though the family often returned to the Maritimes during school breaks, where his father was engaged in gospel work.
Eric graduated from Stratford High School in 1942 and became an American citizen in 1944. He was later drafted into the US Navy and served during the remainder of WWII in the North Atlantic, receiving an honorable discharge in June of 1946. Eric received his Doctor of Chiropractic from National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL. His medical boards qualified him to practice in both Iowa and Wisconsin. He met the love of his life, Jean Kennedy and they were married on October 28, 1950. The Lord led them to Cedar Falls where Eric operated a chiropractic practice from 1951-1957.
He was called to full-time gospel work in 1957, and served the Lord faithfully for over 60 years in the US and Canada. He spent much of his time along with his wife, in later years, ministering to souls on 5 continents.
Eric passed away at the age of 94 on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Deery Suites at Western Home Communities. Preceding him in death were his wife, Jean; his brother, James (‘Gil’); and his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his five children: Shirley (Russell) Sluiter, Carol (Duane) Hamilton, Sharon (Timothy) Fouts, Mary (Bryan) Burton and Brian (Andrea) McCullough; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; as well as many beloved family members.
Eric’s Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the Western Home Community’s Diamond Event Center with burial at the Fairview Cemetery of Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4-7:00 pm on Tuesday also at the Diamond Event Center.
