Biography

Alexander "Alex" John Barnes, 29, of Waterloo, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

His parents Vincent and Janelle Rose Barnes were blessed by their son’s birth on November 7, 1990.

He enjoyed an active, happy childhood and was especially proud to be a big brother to Darrian. They enjoyed playing together, spending time at their grandparent’s farm, and especially loved to play wrestle and battle like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Alex's interests as a young child included skateboarding, trick bikes, basketball, football and learning to hunt with his father and grandfather.

Alex was a graduate of East High School in Waterloo in 2009, He attended welding classes at Hawkeye Community College. He was currently employed with Iowa Wall Systems Inc. Alex took great pride in his work and was grateful for the opportunity to learn and perfect new skills. He was able to apply these skills helping others on his off time. Alex respected and loved his work family and he will be greatly missed by them.

Survived by: his proud parents, Vincent and Janelle Rose Barnes, his little brother, Darrian Barnes all of Waterloo; maternal grandparents, John and Sharon Rose, their daughter and his special cousin, Kayli Rose all of McGregor. ; his Uncle Shawn Rose of Wisconsin who Alex always thought was one of the strongest men in the world; paternal grandfather, John Harrington of Chicago; his significant other who he cherished, Angie Boreman of Waterloo; aunts, Monica Harrington and Michelle Freeman both of Chicago; uncle Roy Freeman Jr. of Chicago; aunt Crystal Williams of Atlanta Georgia; his best friend of 17 years Corey Lux and several loving cousins.

Preceded in death by: paternal grandmother, Mary Freeman and his uncle Todd Rose who played a special role in Alex's early childhood years.

Alex enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and being a dog lover, he adored and loved his dogs Melee and Marley as he considered them his "babies" as well as Bella and Cuddles. Some of his interests included music, fitness, hunting, and following sports.

The devastating loss of Alex will forever be felt but even after his passing he will be able to help so many others as an Organ/Tissue Donor.

Services:
12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and a donation in his honor will be given to Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue at a later date.
