STURM, Florence "Maye" (Hitt) 1933-2020

Jesup, Iowa – F. Maye Sturm, 86 years old, of Jesup, died of natural causes, Sunday, January 12, 2020, at ABCM Rehab Center - West, Independence IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, January 16, 2020, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, Iowa, with Fr. Jeffrey A. Dole officiating. Burial will follow at West View Cemetery, La Porte City, Iowa.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church and the Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Florence Maye Sturm was born March 25, 1933, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of George Ray Hitt and Ida “Dolly” Leticia (Wilson) Hitt. She graduated from La Porte City High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1951. On October 4, 1951, she was united in marriage to Eugene Lyle Sturm, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death in 1992. Maye was particular and had an attention to detail that served her well in her career as a legal secretary. Maye was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.

Maye had a heart for animals and enjoyed her cats. She loved her family and always had a passion for their activities. She especially found joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of their endeavors.

Maye is survived by two sons, Michael Sturm of Seward, AK, David (Mary) Sturm) of Lakeland, FL; one daughter, Kathy (David) Sabers of Jesup, IA; six grandchildren: Luke (Beth) Sabers, Brock (Angie) Sabers, Greg (Stephanie) Sabers, Aaron Sturm, Zac Sturm, Zane (Katie) Sturm; 5 great grandchildren, Nic, Addison, Nolan, Logan, and Calvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Sturm; one granddaughter, Laurie Sabers; two brothers, Raymond Hitt, Lloyd Hitt; and one sister, Ruth Harrison.

White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements.
