Obituary

Diana K. Hickman, 78, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Dec. 17 at her granddaughter’s home in Spanaway, Washington.

She was born Feb. 28, 1941 in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Lynn Junior “L.J.” and Avanell Marie Stohr Randall. On June 30, 1972 she married the love of her life: Larry D Hickman. They were happily married for 26 years, until Larry’s unexpected death on June 29, 1998.

Diana shared her life and love with so many. For years she made her living cleaning homes, which led to those families adopting her as part of their own. She loved puzzles, collecting Cherished Teddies, anything related to Santa Claus and Christmas, weekly trips to the grocery store and garage sales with Carolyn and all things Lenox.

Diana and her sister Karon enjoyed many adventures together, including lots of lunches, dinners, shopping and weekly trips to church. Diana enjoyed her many dinners out with the “girls” and looked forward to faithfully attending her East High class reunions. Most importantly, she loved her family and friends and cherished every moment she spent with them. Her bright smile, kindness and laughter will be missed by everyone she knows.

Survivors include her faithful furry companion, Sammy; three sons, Rick (Sally) Beatty, Lynn (David Sutter) Beatty and Dwayne Hickman all of Waterloo; her daughter, Lisa Kane of Spanaway, Washington; 4 grandchildren; Shelby(David) of Spanaway Wash., Travis Kane of Waterloo, Michael Beatty of Trimont, Minn., JoAnn Beatty of Trimont, Minn; a great granddaughter, Evey; 2 step-grandchildren; a sister, Karon Gram of Waterloo; a niece Shelly(Craig) and nephew Gene(Alicia) of Des Moines; and countless aunts and cousins and in- laws and nieces and nephews in the Hickman families. She is also survived by her best friends, Carolyn Sawyer and family of Waterloo and Bob and Maryjane Fitzpatrick and family of Oelwein.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents; husband Larry; her mother and father-in- law; step-son Brian Hickman; step-daughter Debbie Hickman; brother-in-law Larry Gram; great niece Rachel Smallridge; her beloved dogs BreaAn and Harley; and countless friends.
