Biography

Joseph M. Sutula, 88, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Stanard Center of Western Home Communities.

He was born on October 4, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Joseph M. and Grace Strong Sutula and graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1949. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNI in 1984.

Joseph served in the United States Army, 1952-1957.

He was an engineering technologist at Viking Pump retiring in 1997 after 34 years.

Joseph married Joan G. Luttrell on October 29, 1960 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waterloo; she died September 16, 2017.

He was a member of Cedar Falls First Presbyterian Church, Aplington AMVETS and the Cedar Falls AMVETS.

Joe was an avid golfer who also enjoyed fishing, reading and working in his yard. He was handy with his hands and could be counted on to fix anything around the house, whether it was plumbing or re-upholstering furniture. He was a talented artist who loved to create drawings and paintings, as well as model boats and airplanes. Joe loved to travel with his beloved wife Joan. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Joseph is survived by: Daughter, Deb White‚ Cedar Falls; Daughter, Cindi (Dale) Hendrickson‚ Cedar Falls; Daughter, Gigi Theobald‚ Aplington‚ IA; Son, Jon (Kathy) Sutula‚ Omaha‚ NE; 8 Grandchildren: Jen Snyder, Maggie Hume, Jill Hansen, Carrie Wilkinson, Kaily Stanley, Joe Brokaw, Maddie Sutula and Jamie Sutula; and 8 Great-grandchildren: Caleb Snyder, Dakota Hume, Will Snyder, Asher Wilkinson, Elliott Wilkinson, Kamrie Brokaw, Cohen Stanley and Hillary Brokaw

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and parents, Joseph and Grace Sutula.

Memorial Services: 11:00 AM on December 6, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Falls, 902 Main St.

Cemetery:
burial in Waterloo Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
