CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Philip Minng Chien, 66, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, of complications of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Minneapolis, son of Ting and Evelyn (Chang) Chien. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1969. On Sept. 20, 1975, he married Mary Allan in Cedar Falls; they later divorced. He worked as a glazer at Lindgren Glass for 21 years. He then became a carpenter at the Physical Plant at the University of Northern Iowa, before working as a facilities mechanic in UNI’s Department of Residence.
Survivors: his fiancé, Carol Christopher; three children, Kelly (Joshua) Huck of Waterloo, Sean of Portland, Ore., and Kristin Chien of Cedar Falls; three stepdaughters, Alyssa Christopher of Waverly, Hanna Christopher of Decorah and Cassidy Christopher of Waverly; his mother of Cedar Falls; four brothers, Larry of Waterloo, Kirby of Portland, Ore., Daniel (Kin) of Detroit, Mich., and Walter (Kim) of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren, Audriana Hardy, Madison Chien, Clint Philip Uhlenhopp, and Aiden Huck; five half siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: his father.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service, and also for an hour prior to services at the church.
