Henrietta “Shorty” Junge

Henrietta “Shorty” Marie Junge was born on August 3, 1949 in Kadoka, South Dakota, daughter of John and Etta (Noteboon) Weaver. She began life on a ranch near Okaton, SD, where she would ride her horse “Baldy”.

In 1957, Shorty and her family moved to Inwood, IA, where she grew up in Little John’s grocery store. She began her care-giving career by helping Etta with 2 younger siblings: Bill & Judy. She graduated from West Lyon High School in 1968, the first class to graduate from the new school building. Her adventures began with college in Minnesota and stewardess school out in Colorado, before returning to Inwood.

On April 15, 1972, Shorty was united in marriage to Jerry Junge. They settled in Sanborn where they raised their two sons. After the boys got into school, she became the Activity Coordinator for special needs clients at what is now called The Pride Group in Primghar. She spent 15 years taking residents bowling, shopping, cooking and planning entertainment. Shorty also got very involved with Scouting as her sons moved through the system.

She enjoyed the company and responsibility being involved in scouts gave her. She was a district representative for the Cub Scouts and was also the den mother / pack leader. She retired in September of 2011 due to continued difficulties from muscular dystrophy. After a hospitalization event, she needed a ventilator and specialty care, so the couple moved to Waterloo/Cedar Falls in 2016 to be nearer to their sons.

Shorty enjoyed crafts, sewing/quilting, leather work, cooking, baking and fishing trips with Jerry. She was a fun, loving, and easy-going person and was very protective of her family. Shorty passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Allen Hospital at age 70 with her boys beside her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Little John & Etta, and husband, Jerry.

Shorty is survived by her sons, Kelly (Susan) Junge, Casey (Christiana) Junge; brother, Bill (Eileen) Weaver; sister, Judy Weaver and her dog Tuffy. Her grandkids: Hailey, Reegan, Simon, Anne, and Paul will remember her fondly as Grandma Shorty. Every time they see the craft projects she made for them (dolls, quilts, aprons, coin purses, and wallets), they will be reminded of her and the love she had for them.
