Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic church in Evansdale for Leo A. Geater, 77, of 118 Franklin St. who died about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis hospital of complications of emphysema.

The Rev. William Michael, pastor, will officiate, Rosary services will be by the parish at 7:45 p.m. at the Evansdale Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.

He was born Aug. 15, 1891, the son of Noah and Sarah Bayles Geater in Vinton.

He married Barbara Dirkes Apr 22, 1924 at Gilbertville. He was a veteran of WWI serving in the Army. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad as section foreman for 35 years, retiring in 1953. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic church and of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his widow, of 106 Linwood Ave; a son, Edward Geater of 106 Linwood Ave; two daughters, Mrs. Richmond Hursh of Janesville and Mrs. Leonard Dirkes of 305 Grand Blvd, Evansdale; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
