Eileen Marie Smith, 92, of Evansdale, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, went to join her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 7, 2019, of natural causes. She passed peacefully with family by her side at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The earth was given the greatest gift, on March 10, 1927, when Eileen was born to Henry and Mary Roberts Dix in New Hartford, IA. Eileen graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1944 and then continued to reside in Waterloo until her 80’s.

While in Waterloo, Eileen met Junior “Bud” Smith and they were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA on a beautiful day on June 28, 1947. Eileen and Bud spent many wonderful years together in the home they built on Byron Ave. in Waterloo. During that time Eileen and Bud enjoyed weekly visits to Readlyn to visit Bud’s family to help out and just be there for family get-togethers.

Eileen worked at Powers Manufacturing after high school and continued to do so while Bud spend time in the service. Soon after, they started their beautiful family with the births of Jim, Carol and then Ken. At that time, Eileen then began her new chapter as a homemaker so she could raise the kids and perfect her amazing cooking skills. Eileen would make a gourmet meal for just about anyone who came over and always made sure they never left hungry. She made the BEST brownies and cookies and was always asking, “Do you want more?” And then she’d giggle and made sure you took home leftovers. On October 26, 1989, Eileen lost her beloved Bud to cancer but her faithfulness to him stayed true until the day she passed.

In addition to her love for her family and cooking, Eileen loved watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Minnesota Wild hockey. She was a hoot to watch when she would get upset when her team wasn’t doing what she wanted. When Eileen became a grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved all of the children unconditionally and kept track of everything they did. She loved to babysit them when she could, play cards with them and get hugs! If there is one thing to remember about Eileen, remember that her family was her life and her devotion and love for her church, New Beginnings First Wesleyan Church, never wavered. Heaven never received a more deserving angel as they did October 7, 2019.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Carol (Steve) Stevenson‚ Cedar Falls; a son, Ken (Diane) Smith‚ Prior Lake‚ MN, 6 grandchildren: John Nesmith, Steven (Stephanie) Stevenson, Christine Heisey, Jason Stevenson, Tyler Smith, and Kyra Smith; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Jim Smith; and her siblings: Donald Dix, Helen Ruthenburg, Lloyd Dix, Lee Dix, Opal Reams, Duane Dix, and Kenneth Dix.
