Miss Frances Albee of Waterloo Drowned In Cedar River.
WHEN her wings came off Miss Frances Albee, a pretty stenographer, nineteen years of age, was drowned in the Cedar river while bathing. And the water where she went down was only five feet deep at that.
In company with others Miss Albee went bathing, although she feared the water, and did not know how to swim.
To give her confidence and to save her life if she should get into deep water, two artificial wings were fastened to her shoulders. In some manner these became loose and floated away, and the girl sank. People upon the bank who knew the water was only five feet deep supposed she realized she was in no danger and could walk ashore if she wanted to.
But evidently she became paralyzed with fear and made no effort to save herself, for by the time the crowd realized she was in danger she had sunk. Her body was recovered in half an hour and every effort was made to resuscitate her, but the vital spark had fled.
