Dennis Dale Peters

September 14, 1958 - August 7, 2019

Family requests memorials directed to the family for future designation rather than flowers.

Dennis Dale Peters, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at MercyOne/Sartori Memorial Hospital of Cedar Falls.

He was born September 14, 1958, in Sumner, Iowa, son of Wilbert and Darlene (Schlewitz) Peters. Dennis graduated from Tripoli High School with the Class of 1976. He met Connie Louise (Sander) Harding while playing co-ed volleyball and with encouragement from their friend, Sherry Padavich, they connected and were married on December 31, 1999, at Orchard Hill Reformed Church of Cedar Falls.

Dennis worked for United Parcel Service for 30 years, retiring in 2009. While working at the Cedar Falls’ Rec Center, he discovered a natural talent for maintaining and repairing fitness equipment which led to his next life’s venture as Owner/Technician of Cedar Valley Fitness Repair.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father; step-son, Neil Harding; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Connie; his estranged son, Eric Peters of CA; his stepsons, Josh and Nick Harding of Cedar Falls; his mother, Darlene Peters of Readlyn, Iowa; his brothers: Dave (Mary) Peters of Janesville; Marv (Diane) Peters of Ely; and Jim (Lois) Peters of Readlyn; his sisters: Carol (Norm) Menefee of Cedar Falls and Audrey (Larry) Norte of Pine Island, MN; his father and mother-in-law, Bill & Marge Sander of Cedar Falls; his nieces and nephews: Marcus (Jess) Peters; Craig (Sarah) Peters; Nicholas Menefee; Jen (Aaron) Schaldecker; Angi Hand; Patti (Kyle) Spowart; Sam (Matt) Lambert; Sabrina Norte (fiancé, Jake Berger); and Stephanie Norte (fiancé, Derek Titus); many other relatives.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 10:30 am, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, 1825 W. 12th Street, Cedar Falls with a visitation on Friday, August 16, 2019, from 4-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Dennis’ family for future designation. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.

Dennis was always busy, helpful and giving to anybody who sought help, advice or the right tool for any job. He could fix anything in his garage workshop and was a masterful woodworker building treasured keepsakes for his family. Dennis kept a meticulous lawn and considered his yard and landscaping his piece of paradise on Earth. He enjoyed bicycling as a member of the Cedar Valley Cyclists and was a RAGBRAI enthusiast with his tandem stoker, Connie, always along for the ride.

Dennis loved serving as an Official for swimming at the High School, College, Big 10 and NCAA events, and was noted by this peer group for his fairness and integrity. Most of all, he was the consummate gentleman who treated his beloved wife as a treasure up to his final moments. All are invited to wear their Panthers, Chicago Bears or Chicago Cubs apparel for the Visitation and Funeral Service in Dennis’ honor.
