Estella "Stella" Marie Teel was born December 31, 1920, near Wapello, Iowa, in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Viola Bruegge Kennedy. She attended school and grew up in the Muscatine and Columbus City areas.
She was united in marriage to Francis Edward Teel at Fredonia, Iowa. The family moved to the Winthrop area in 1950, where Francis was employed and Stella raised their six sons and three daughters. Stella was a very hard worker growing a large garden, canning the produce, and baking for her family.
She was the go-to-person whenever cinnamon rolls, pies, angel food cakes, cookies or any baked goods was needed for community activities. Faithful families left their children in Stella’s care and her love of babies continued through her long life. After Francis died in 1992, she traveled with her good friend, Martha Stiefel, to many wonderful destinations.
