October 29, 1925 - May 17, 2019

Leona Jean Perkins, 93 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday, May 17 at her home.

She was born Oct. 29, 1925, at home in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of George and Jennie Shaffer Hill.

She married Eldon Gruber Sept 22, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Ind. and later divorced. She married Ted Perkins in Sept of 1977, in California. He died Oct. 16, 2006.

Jean co-owned a dry goods store with her sisters in Harlan Indiana. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, and working on a horse ranch. But her true passion was sewing and watching her family grow to five generations.

Survivors include: two sons, Dennis (Joanne) of Arlington Heights, Ill. and Alan (Trulla) of Denver, Iowa; four daughters, Carol (Hap) Klammer of Cedar Falls, Bev (Tim) Lanigan and Joyce (John) McBride both of Waterloo and JoAnne (Ed) Blumenshine of Denver, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, and five sisters.

Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1555 W. Ridgeway Ave., Waterloo, with inurnment at a later date. Family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street and for one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
