Jesup, Iowa – Thomas A. Mangrich, 71 years old of rural Jesup, died Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, Iowa, with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville, with military rites conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Casual Attire/ blue jeans, requested. Memorials may be directed to the family or to Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Tom was born February 2, 1948 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Anthony Jacob Mangrich and Regina Elizabeth (Meisch) Mangrich. He graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, with the class of 1966. He served in the US Air Force from 1967 – 1971, including Vietnam from March of 1969 – March of 1970.

He was united in marriage to Sue Ann Steele on January 18, 1969, in Rapid City, South Dakota. They have made their home in Black Hawk County for many years. Tom worked with the disabled through Lutheran Services of Iowa, for many years before retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Tom is survived by his wife Sue of Jesup; one daughter, Tiffany (Gary) Thoma of Jesup; one son Thomas “T.J.” Mangrich of Jesup; three grandchildren, Olivia, Tyler and Kyle Thoma; one sister, Bonnie (Mike) Welch of Gilbertville, one brother, Rick Mangrich of Jesup. His parents; one son, Chad; one granddaughter, Taylor Rae Thoma; two brothers, Jack Mangrich and Robert Mangrich; and his best friend, Mike Soppe, preceded him in death.

Tom was always a jokester, loving to tease anyone and have fun. He had many passions as well including, having great talks with his granddaughter, Olivia; including his grandson Kyle as part of Guy’s Night on Wednesday’s; Friday’s were special with grandson Tyler at Burger King for supper; always teasing his daughter Tiffany by asking “what do you want now” when she called to check in; sharing a passion for computers with his son T.J.; his ’46 chevy hot rod, Black Lassie”; his dogs, Gracie and presently Brion; and a most proud milestone in life was sharing 50 years of marriage with his wife Sue this past January.
