C. O. Balliett, president of the Waterloo First National Bank, died last week. The Reporter pays this beautiful tribute to his memory:--
Balliett was accepted everywhere as an exemplification of personal integrity, and the long years of business life were fruitful of the respect born of confidence and unimpeachable integrity. Outside the exactions of business no more companionable and lovable man ever moved in the society of men. Always cordial, unfailing in courtesy, jovial, genial, C. O. Balliett was a paragon of excellence in citizenship, and it has been given to few men to win lifelong friendship in the quiet, charming manner of our citizen who is gone.
Grieve family and friends will for the departed, for grief goes out from the bruised heart as naturally as the perfume from flowers. His life was a story of worth wrought by thought for others and so the spirit of this gentle man, the loyal friend, the loving husband, the kind father, floated out upon the shadowy river that flows forever to the unknown sea.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Elmwood Cemetery and that he was born in 1813 and died April 6, 1905.
