Darlene M. Kresse, age 90, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.
She was born July 18, 1928 near Shell Rock in rural Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Blanche Foster Stufflebeam. Darlene was united in marriage with John Rosenau on July 28, 1946 in Waverly, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1973. She married Everett Gray on March 8, 1975 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1984. She later married Joseph Kresse on April 15, 1997 in Phoenix, AZ. and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2002.
Darlene worked as a sales clerk at Moody’s Variety in Waverly, Robin’s Surplus, Payless Shoes and for many years at the Woolworth Store in downtown Waterloo and at Crossroads Mall. She and Joseph retired to Arizona where they worked at several flea markets. Darlene returned to Waterloo following his death in 2002.
She was a member and past president of the Moose Lodge and an active member of the Sullivan Brothers V.F.W. Auxiliary where she was a past president and ran the bingo program for many years.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Donna (John) McElhaney of Waterloo, Carol (Kevin) Bate of Hazelton and Debra (Troy) Graybill of Waterloo; 2 sons, John Rosenau of Fleming Island, FL and Darrin (Lesbia) Rosenau of Jacksonville, FL; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a granddaughter, Brenda Gingrich; 3 sons-in-law, Delbert Saint, Duane Wendt and Bob Carlson; 2 sisters, Eva McCloud and Carol Matthison and several nieces and nephews who were special to her.
