Claire Eugene Stohr 72, of Waterloo, passed away at home on Thursday March 21, 2019.

Claire was born December 27, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa to Harold and Reva (Smirl) Stohr. He grew up and attended schools in Evansdale, Iowa. Claire graduated from East High School in 1965.

Claire served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War from November 1965 to November 1968. He came home and worked a variety of jobs throughout the Cedar Valley before finding his home at John Deere in 1973. Claire retired in May 2003 and was a proud member of the UAW.

He met the love of his life and was united in marriage to Marlene Jean Willhite on January 31, 1970. They had two children together before she tragically passed away on November 29. 1976.

After his retirement he enjoyed spending his days road tripping all over the state of Iowa, drinking coffee and “shooting the breeze” with friends- most of whom were lifelong friends from childhood and fishing all over Eastern Iowa. In 2010 he moved in with his daughter for health reasons and to be closer to his grandchildren.

Claire is survived by his daughter Tina Everding and his son Charles Stohr both of Waterloo, granddaughter Darian (Mike) Everding of Ames and grandson Randall Everding Jr. of Cedar Falls, a sister Ruth Pazdera of Gilbertville and special pets Blake, Jack and Max.

Claire was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, parents, two sisters Beverly Stohr and Virginia Guido and in-laws Hewey and Maudie Willhite.

His family will honor his wishes for cremation and no formal funeral service. A celebration of life visitation will be Wednesday March 27th, 2019 from 4pm to 7pm at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home in Waterloo. Burial with Military rights will be 10 am Thursday March 28th, 2019 at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.

Claire was a kind, caring, soft hearted man who loved his family and friends fiercely. He loved a good Louis L’ Amour western, a strong cup of coffee, animals of all kinds and he was forever in search of a good cheeseburger or pork tenderloin sandwich. He had a wicked sense of humor and was as “stubborn as the day was long”. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
