Sally Mildred (Sherwood) Hermanson

Sally Mildred Hermanson was born January 28, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Alice (Jacobsen) Sherwood. She was raised in Waterloo and attended West High School. Sally worked at LaPole’s Root Beer Stand and Erling Hermanson had moved to Waterloo to work at John Deere after serving in the U.S. Army. He would see and admire her at work and, finally, worked up the courage to ask her on a date. They were united in marriage on September 5, 1959, in Spring Grove, Minnesota.

Sally was banquet manager at the ConWay Civic Center in Waterloo and tended bar at the VFW. She and Erling shared a love for the outdoors and would take their three children on an annual vacation to various sites across the country camping along the way. Sally enjoyed playing cards and creating Halloween costumes and was a very good bowler in her younger years. She was sassy and fun and loved spending time with family and friends. Sally will be remembered for being a great cook.

Sally passed away three days before her 76th birthday on Friday, January 25, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erling; four brothers: Robert “Bob”, Vincent and James and Gary Sherwood; and her sister, Mary Jebe. Sally is survived by two daughters: Alisa (Richard) Butts and Melissa (Sean) Burnell both of Waterloo; her son Curtis (LeeAnn) Hermanson of Spring Grove, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: RandyJohn and Ryan Butts; Jordan, Dakota (Emily) and Haley Wandro; and Levi (Kate) and Kelsey Hermanson; four great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Kacie, Kaily and Wyatt with another baby girl on the way; three brothers: William (Darlene) Sherwood of LaPorte City and Tim and Steve Sherwood both of Waterloo; and one sister, Vicki Sherwood of Waterloo.
