Donna Laurine Young
Donna Laurine (Rose) Young was born on July 18, 1929, to Donald and Laurine (Leistikow) Rose in Waterloo, Iowa. She was raised in Waterloo and attended Longfellow School. Donna graduated from West High School and then went on to attend Teachers College and Kings College in Delaware.
After school, Donna worked at Rath’s, dry beef department, and at John Deere in the pattern shop. On November 6, 1948, Donna married the love of her life, Keith Young in Waterloo. The two welcomed five children into their lives and Donna spent most of her time raising them. After raising their family, Donna and Keith moved to North Carolina, Michigan, and Wisconsin, but later returned to Waterloo.
Donna was an active member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church and sang in their choir. She also sang on the radio as one of Polly’s friends, daughter of Paul Hutchins author of Sugar Creek Gang book series. Donna enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family. She was also a gifted seamstress; making quilts, clothing for her children and grandchildren, and reupholstering furniture.
Donna Laurine Young died on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Covenant Medical Center at the age of 89. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son: Kenneth Young; and many aunts and uncles. Donna is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Keith of Waterloo; her three sons: Keith A. (Teri) of Cedar Falls, Donald (Melinda) of Cedar Falls, and Robert (Christine) of Lino Lakes, Minn; her daughter: Diane (Brian) Hunnicutt of Green Bay, Wis. Also left to cherish Donna’s memory are her 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
