Richard Wayne Newhall

April 2, 1946 - January 3, 2019

Richard “Rich” W. Newhall was born in Eldora, Iowa on April 2, 1946 to Robert and Herma (Thorsnes) Newhall of Radcliffe, Iowa.

Rich married Susan Grupe on July 10, 1965 in Alden, Iowa.

Rich was an avid horseman and camper who loved to prepare meals using cast iron cookware. Rich worked for Northwester Bell/US West for 30 years. Rich started as a repairman and retired as the Construction Operations Manager for the 319 area code. At one point, Rich was the youngest person in his management Level and had the largest combined operation within US West.

Rich is survived by his wife Susan and their four children; Mark (Susan) Newhall, Michael (Karena) Newhall, Lonnie (Colette) Newhall and Jennifer (Jason) Reuter. Rich has 6 grandsons and 3 granddaughters as well as 1 great grandson. His younger sister, Marilyn Engelson, and several nieces and nephews also survive Rich.

Rich is preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Kathleen Smith.

Richard W. Newhall, 72, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, January 3 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, January 7 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
