Independence, Iowa – Betty J. Anderson, 78 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
She was born on March 8, 1940, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Joe and Minnie Gertrude (Strellner) Koopman. She graduated from high school in Vinton with the Class of 1957. On November 5, 1966, she and John “Jack” Hasbrouck Anderson were married in Vinton. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Anderson worked in the graphic services department at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 36 years. She retired in 1995. She was an active member of the Farm Bureau Women and was a past president. She enjoyed water aerobics and the Silver Sneakers. She liked to play the slot machines at the casino. Mrs. Anderson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her two sons, Craig (Teresa) Anderson of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and Kent Anderson of Independence, by three grandchildren: Ethan Anderson, Caleb Anderson, and Malia Anderson, all of Rice Lake, and by two sisters-in-law, Donna Koopman of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and Doris Gunlock of Kansas City, Missouri.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mardene Schade, and by two brothers, Stanley Koopman and Merlyn Koopman.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 , at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids , Iowa . Friends may call for visitation after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
