JoEllen Kay (Baseler) Grapp

JoEllen Kay (Baseler) Grapp was born on July 25, 1958 to Edward and LaVonne “Pat” (Christiason) Baseler at Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo. She attended school in Cedar Falls and graduated from the high school in the class of 1976. Jo then went on to attend Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and received her nursing degree. She worked as a nurse for the American Red Cross, at Hansen Elementary, and her most recent employment was through Unity Point Health as an occupational nurse at John Deere.

On June 20, 1981 JoEllen married the love of her life Stewart Grapp at Westminster Presbyterian Church. This was not the only major life event that took place at the church. Jo grew up at Westminster and continued to be a lifelong member. She was a Deacon and Elder of the church and was a member of the P.E.O Chapter.

Jo was an extremely compassionate and humble individual, giving her time to the community in various ways such as making baby quilts and donating them to preemies at Sartori with her sewing sisters: Deb, Debbie, and Sue and around Christmas time, baking cookies and candies and giving them to everyone she knew.

She was an avid sewer, loved cooking (for the masses), traveling, and gardening. However, the most important thing to Jo was her family and she loved spending time with her grandkids and sharing in their activities. Jo was an extremely supportive and caring individual and she will be missed by all who knew her.

JoEllen Kay Grapp died on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center, at the age of 60. She is preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 35 years: Stewart; her daughter: Sarah (Nick) Hellman of Cedar Falls; her son: Josh Grapp (Abbi Rust) of Cedar Falls; one brother: John (Pam) Baseler of Cedar Rapids; three nieces: Carrie, Laura, and Jessica; and two grandchildren: Joseph and Emma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society
