Biography

James C. Olson, 84, of Grundy Center, formerly of Waterloo, died at: Arlington Place of Grundy Center on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

He was born October 2, 1934 in Garnett, Kansas, son of Sheldon and Mildred Patterson Olson. He attended Burlington schools. Jim married JoAnn Weigle on August 31, 1956 at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.

Jim retired from Terex Crane Co. in Waverly in 1995 as a welder. He was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.

He enjoyed hunting deer and fishing especially in Canada. At the holidays, Jim would give away turkeys and pork loins to different people that he had smoked himself.

Jim is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Waterloo; son, William (Cathy) Olson, Dysart, IA; son-in-law, Mark Johnson, Waterloo; six grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Trueg, Mariah (Gary) Deitrick, Seth (Kari) Johnson, Hollie Berryman, Sarah Olson, and Jordan Olson; 15 great-grandchildren: Taron and Anthony Taylor; Jaden, Damon, and Alexander; Andy, Will, Maggie, Beckett and Cooper; Lincoln and Beth; and Makayla and Makenna; a granddaughter-in-law: Tiffany Olson; and step sister, Loretta Stephens, Boliver, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Viola Olson; son, Robert Olson; daughter, Carrie Johnson; daughter-in-law, Marge Olson; grandson, Anthony “Tony” Olson; sister, Martha McChesney; brother-in-law, Millard McChesney; and by step brother-in-law, Ralph Stephens.
