Burton A. Maurer

Burton A. “Burt” Maurer, age 74, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born September 26, 1944, at Sumner, Iowa, the son of Vaylard Fred and Donna Ruth (Rosenow) Maurer. Burt graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1962. He was united in marriage with Judy Kay Bremer on February 3, 1968 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2007. Burt was united in marriage with Diane M. Metzger in June 2014 in Waterloo. He was a veteran of the U.S Army and recently enjoyed being part of a Cedar Valley Honor Flight.

Burt worked for over 30 years for John Deere and Company and then worked for Bossard for 20 years. He was a member of UAW Local 838 and the National Rifle Association. Burt loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He also liked to spend time with his family and enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.

Survivors include his wife, Diane of Waterloo; 2 sons, Brett (Jessica) Maurer of Walford, IA and Darrin Maurer of Waterloo; a step daughter, Nannette (John) Syharath of Waterloo; 2 step sons, Darin (Jodi) Bronson of Williams Bay, WI, and Jon (Michelle) Bronson of Silver Lake, WI; 2 grandchildren, Brodie and Caden; 8 step grandchildren, Preston, Parker, DeLaney, Maddy, Malia, Morgan, Ashton and Anna; his mother, Donna Maurer of Cedar Falls; and 2 brothers, Dennis Maurer of Waterloo and Richard Maurer of Story City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Judy.
