Biography--

Lee L. Platt, 97, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, September 25 at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

She was born on April 21, 1921, in Waverly, daughter of Albert and Hertha Morf. Lee married Dean Platt on June 4, 1942 in Ames, the day before their graduation so that classmates could attend. Dean preceded her in death on October 25, 2009.

Lee graduated from Tripoli High School as valedictorian, and Iowa State University in 1942 with a BS degree in Home Economics. In 1944 Lee and Dean brought a long-time family business to Waterloo and founded Platt's Nursery.

She was a faithful First Presbyterian Church member for 72 years, joining January 6, 1946, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a two-term member of the Session, member of the Education Committee and Search Committee for the organist and pastor, and a board member of Church Foundation.

She was also a Campfire Girl, a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter IU for more than 50 years.

Lee enjoyed cooking, entertaining, bridge, music, dancing, the piano, and travel. With Dean and family she had been to all states, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Greece, Israel, England, the Scandinavian countries, and New Zealand.

She received joy from the beauty of the birds and flowers and enjoyed decorating for herself and others. While Dean was busy beautifying the outside with his landscaping, she brought beauty to the inside as owner of the Gift Shop.

Survived by her son, Richard (Marsha) Platt of Waterloo; daughter: Ann (Gary) Fergemann of Kalamazoo, MI; five grandchildren, Brian (Katarzyna) Fergemann of Chicago, IL, David (Tilly) Fergemann, of Atlanta, GA, Caitlyn (Trever) Sittig of New Hampton, Allison (Justin) Taylor of Harlan, and Breanna Platt (friend Adam Nieland) of Storm Lake; six great-grandchildren, Oliva, Owen, Kate, Brock, Nolan, and Dylan; and sister, Jeanette Baran of Palos Verdes Estates, CA.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband.
