Roger Dean Veldhuizen

Roger Dean Veldhuizen of Waterloo, passed away on August 17, 2018, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home following an eight-month battle with cancer.

Roger was born December 11, 1942, in Pipestone, Minnesota, the son of Cornelius and Sophie (Verhoeff) Veldhuizen. He was the 14th of their 15 children. Following his graduation from Pipestone High School, Roger attended trade school in Omaha and became a member of the Minnesota National Guard.

He moved to Waterloo to work at the Montgomery Wards Store which had just opened at College Square Mall. Roger, next, worked for Star Refrigeration until he decided to begin Veldhuizen Commercial Refrigeration which he owned and operated for over 40 years until his retirement. Roger was an avid motorcyclist, a proud member of the Eagles, Moose, ABATE, the Evansdale AMVETS, and the Refrigeration Engineering Society.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers: John, Albert, Bernard, Arnold and Casey.

He is survived by beloved his wife, Iann Marie (Myers) Veldhuizen of Waterloo; their children: Todd (Gina) of Kansas City, MO; Shannon Jon of Riverside, CA; Nadine (Chris) Jesser of Riverside, CA; Ryan (Deborah) of Farr West, UT; Michael (Denise) Clark of Anchorage, AK; Linda (Kim) Porter of New Sharon; and Kimberlee (Esnad) Tepic of Hilton Head, SC; 10 grandchildren: Elijah, Forest, Shannon, Skye, Brittany, Andrew, Lily, Stephanie, Jackie, and Jannah; three great-grandchildren; three brothers: Tony (Susan) Veldhuizen of Portland, OR, Robert (Marion) of Jamestown, CA, Marvin (Rosalyn) of Sioux Falls, SD; six sisters: Gertrude Schneider of Alamosa, CO, Annetta Legler and Emma Jasper of Woodstock, MN, Sophie (Jerold) Schoolmeester of Edgerton, MN, Mildred (Don) Van Wyke of Denver, CO and Julie (Carl) Kreun of Hemet, CA; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
