Janet Marie Richmond

Janet Marie (Groenewald) Richmond was born on December 11, 1951, to her parents Daniel and Ellen (Hankins) Groenewald, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

She spent her whole life in the Waterloo area: attending Hawthorne Grade School and graduating from Waterloo’s East High School in 1970.

Janet was married to the love of her life: Randy Richmond on December 20, 1969 at Faith Assembly of God in Elk Run Heights. The two spent almost fifty years together and welcomed three children. She worked in food service and as a drug store clerk at Greenwood Drug and retired after about 30 years of service.

Janet enjoyed all types of crafts including card-making and crocheting blankets for her family, friends, and veterans of the Vietnam War. She was also an extremely active member of Faith Assembly of God Church by giving her time to help feed individuals on Wednesday nights. Janet enjoyed her flowers, baking her famous sugar cookies, and playing games like Yahtzee with her sisters and daughter. Janet was a caring and compassionate individual who loved her family and friends unconditionally.

Janet Marie (Groenewald) Richmond died on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo at the age of 66, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian Allen Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Kristine Richmond; her loving father-in-law, Duke Richmond; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry Jacobsen and Chester Inman.

Janet is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Randy Richmond of Waterloo; son, Tracy (Michelle) Richmond of Waterloo; daughter, Christina (Dennis) Snyder of Quasqueton; six grandchildren: Luke (Sydnee), Nina, Jeremiah “JP”, Sophie, Sydney, and Randy Russell. Janet is also survived by two sisters, Linda Inman of Evansdale and Teri (Earl)Brandt of Waterloo; one brother, John (Shirley) Lambertson of Iowa Falls, and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey.
