She was born October 28, 1926 in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Florence Feeney Cox. She married Richard M. Newton on June 3, 1950 in Elkader; he preceded her in death on January 2, 2017.

Mary worked in Food Service for Waterloo Public Schools for 14 years, retiring in 1994. She loved golfing and bowling.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; one son, Kevin; one granddaughter, Elly Newton and two brothers, John and Francis Cox.

Mary Cared for and valued her family with all of her heart.

In Mary's youth she loved to bowl and loved to golf. And she enjoyed a daily walk with her neighborhood friends. She was a very thrifty spender, saving $2.23 shopping at Eagles grocery store compared to other nearby markets. And she always loved to shop for the grandkids, juice boxes for Kelsey and Rachel, Velveeta for Elly and Sam, Cookies in the coffee can for Adam and Jessica usually got the entire contents of the refrigerator named off for her. She loved her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren Soooo much.

Mary always had time for those who needed a little TLC and was always understanding of those struggling. But the greatest gift and virtue of Mary was that she loved and valued the family. Always making sure that Holidays were spent together, and encouraging us kids to get along and be kind to one another. She is loved and will be missed!
