William Carl Victor Mixdorf was born March 16, 1928, in Waterloo, the son of Wilhelm and Mable (Bartels) Mixdorf. He grew up in and around the vicinity of Waterloo, and graduated from West High School with the Class of 1946.

William was married to Marian Lewis in a double wedding ceremony with Marian’s sister Carmen and her husband, Bob Davis, on June 4, 1948, which was also the brides’ parents’ 22nd wedding anniversary.

William and Marian lived in Waterloo for 23 years, then moved to an acreage north of Hudson, where they lived for 40 years. Most recently William resided at Windhaven Assisted Living (Western Home Communities) in Cedar Falls. He was employed at John Deere in Waterloo as a tool designer for 37 years, and sold Wick homes and farm buildings. William also owned and operated Mixdorf Rabbitry, raising, breeding and exhibiting purebred rabbits. William enjoyed cross stitching, puzzles, gardening, attending rabbit shows and fairs, woodworking, and spending time with his large family.

William passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the age of 90 years at home surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Marian; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Mixdorf; two sisters, Mary Lou Blobaum and Marlys Melsted; and four brothers-in-law. William is survived by his six children: Richard (Kathy) Mixdorf of Waterloo, Pat Bitel of Evansdale, Dave (Rhonda) Mixdorf of Thayer, IA, Brian (Esther) Mixdorf of Grundy Center, Brenda (Pat) Wellner of Washburn and Eric Mixdorf of Denver; a brother, Frank (Carol) Mixdorf of New Glarus, WI; two sisters, Ruth White of Waterloo and Margaret Swanson of Waverly; a brother-in-law, Marino Melsted of Sioux Falls, SD; and a sister-in-law, Carmen Davis of Waverly. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 18 great-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

William will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Memorials may be directed to the family.
