Biography--

U.S. VETERAN

Glenwood E. “Glen” Casteel, Jr., 93, of Waterloo, died on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Friendship Village Retirement Center.

He was born on October 23, 1924 in Herculaneum, Missouri, the son of Glenwood E., Sr. and Nora E. Karr Casteel.

He married Violet Delores Grittmann on February 11, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. The couple moved to Waterloo, in 1947. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2015.

Glen worked as a machinist at John Deere for 35 years prior to his retirement. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Theater – South Pacific, serving from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945.

He was a member of Central Christian Church for over 60 years and was a deacon of the church. Glen and Violet delivered Meals on Wheels. They both worked in the church’s food booth at the National Dairy Cattle Congress and attended the same Sunday School Class for over 50 years. Glen was a member of the UAW Local 838.

Glen is survived by two daughters, Dr. Nancy Casteel of Chicago, IL, and Kathleen (Richard) Boudreau of Lake Tahoe, NV; a daughter‑in‑law, Virginia "Ginni" Casteel of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Lt. Bradley (Jodi) Casteel, U.S.N. of Virginia Beach, VA, Brandon (Regan) Casteel of Waterloo, Cassandra Edwards of Citrus Heights, CA, and Christopher (Aubrey) Boudreau of Carson City, NV; five great‑grandchildren, Zailey and Zoie Casteel both of Virginia Beach, VA, Brady and Beckett Edwards, both of Citrus Heights, CA, and Callen Boudreu of Carson City, NV; and one brother, Charles (Sandy) Casteel of Monroe, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; son, Douglas Casteel; two sisters, Joyce Dudley and Patricia Casteel; and a brother, Donald Casteel.
