May 30, 1926 - July 13, 2018

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Ruth Ellen Bernard, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, July 13, 2018, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 30, 1926, in Solomon, Kansas, daughter of Harvey and Amanda (Rice) Wood. She married Russell E. Bernard on August 25, 1946 in Solomon. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1997.

She graduated from Solomon High School and attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. She was a homemaker throughout her adult life.

Survived by: her children, Roger (Peggy) of Overland Park, KS, Joyce (Duane) Schulz of Leawood, KS, Alan (Deb) and Steve (Julee) both of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren: Brett (Susie) Bernard, Justin (Kati) Bernard, Shelby Bernard, Ryan (Alesia) Schulz, Bryce Bernard, Eric Schulz, Brittany Bernard, Jason Schulz, Allison (Brandon) Pedersen, Kyle (Allison) Bernard, Kevin Bernard; six great grandchildren: Luke, Emily, Tyler, Ashlee, Cooper, and Isla; a sister, Betty Butler of Salina, KS; and a brother, Harvey (Pat) Wood Jr of Solomon, KS.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Hull and Elsie Napier; four brothers: Raymond, Clyde, and Charles Wood; and one in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21st at First United Methodist Church with burial prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 20th at Richardson Funeral Service.

Memorials may be directed to the church.

Ruth lived a joyful life, full of friendships and family. She and Russ settled in Cedar Falls and were active in many civic and Church organizations. Above all, she loved time with family, which was fun-filled and bountiful. She touched many with her kindness, thoughtfulness and ever-present smile!
