Bruce Leroy Newell

Bruce Leroy Newell was born on August 19, 1949 to Ross and Constance (Ellsworth) Newell in Waterloo, Iowa. Bruce was raised by his mother and step-father: Carl DeLapp. He attended school in Waterloo and graduated from East High School. He then went on to attend Hawkeye Community College.

Bruce married the love of his life Mary Sue Demuth on June 27, 1970. The couple welcomed two children into their lives and Bruce was an extremely loving father. He worked in construction, Mobile Money, and Waterloo Boiler. He recently retired from Black Hawk Engineering in building maintenance.

Bruce established the Midwest Chapter of Enabling the Future. Here he did 3-D printing of prosthetic hands and arms for individuals in need all over the world at no charge. Bruce also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, building street rods, working on cars. He had an extremely giving heart and cherished his family greatly.

Bruce Leroy Newell died on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his daughter’s home at the age of 68.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-father; half-sister: Janice; half-brother: John Brandt; step-brother: Darrell; and two step-sisters: Marlene and Carol.

Bruce is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Mary of Waterloo; his daughter: Andrea (Steve) Keys of Waterloo; his son: Chad (Amanda) Newell of Waterloo; one step-sister: Diane (Mike) Goodin of Illinois; seven grandchildren: Blake (Karson) Keys, Amanda (Cody) Markey, Josh and Rylee Keys, Cleo and Nicholas Newell, and Emma Harris. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Kinley, Madison, Macy, Makenna, and baby Kross Keys due in September, and Lelend and Raelynn Markey.
