Obituary for JoAnn Beu Steely

JoAnn Beu Steely was born in Waterloo, daughter of Herman W. and Henrietta Leistikow Beu. She was preceded in death by a baby brother.

JoAnn attended Kingsley School, West Junior and West High. She graduated fifth in her class and received the DAR good citizenship award for her grades and activities.

JoAnn played the piano but her dancing lessons were her first love. She was well known for dance leadership and dance events at West High.

JoAnn attended the University of Iowa where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and Freshman's Women's Council.
She returned to Waterloo and was employed at The Courier as a classified commercial account manager. She married James Steely on May 24, 1952. He died in 2012. They have one son, Robert.

JoAnn did a lot of volunteer work in Waterloo and was past president of Waterloo-Cedar Falls Panelentic. JoAnn loved animals, particularly dogs. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and volunteered a lot there.

JoAnn is survived by her dear son Robert (Sheila Wedeking).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Waterloo Memorial Park Chapel with burial to follow in the cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. before the service at the chapel. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of services.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
