Jeannette Emily Argotsinger, 97, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

She was born April 23, 1921 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of James G. and Florence (Landhauser) Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim; an infant daughter; and her husband, Victor Argotsinger. Victor and Jeannette were married January 11, 1946 in West Burlington, Iowa; he passed away in 1996.

She is survived by her son, Jay and daughter-in-law, Kim of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Vicki and son-in-law, Gary Gibson of St. Augustine, Florida; as well as her sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack Argotsinger of Nevada, Iowa, and a niece and two nephews. She cherished her grandchildren, Neil (Lisa) Gibson of Memphis, Tennessee and Ron (Jodi) Gibson of Yulee, Florida. Lighting up her life were her five great-grandchildren: Seth Victor and Shayna Giles of Memphis and Sam, Emily Tyler, and Kate of Yulee, Florida.

Jeannette was very proud of her Iowa roots. She and Victor lived in Cedar Falls, Hawarden, Clarinda, and Glenwood during his teaching career. They moved to Waterloo in 1957.

While living here, Jeannette was involved in the community through her work with the YWCA who honored her as one of their Women of Persimmon in 2011. She had been an active member of the Friends of the Library as well as the First Congregational Church and PEO. One of her regrets in her later years was not being able to be out on the golf course regularly. She belonged to the Waterloo Women’s Golf Association and continued to enjoy the fellowship of its members.

Jeannette was a fan of UNI athletics attending football and basketball games. She was an avid reader and enjoyed symphony concerts and plays and loved to laugh. Whether it was a hand of bridge, a board game, the daily crossword puzzle or any life challenge; Jeannette faced everything with a focused determination and a will to succeed.

Every day she cherished the wonderful friendships she had made. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who would and did find the good in everything. She will be missed and always remembered with great admiration and love.

The family is so very grateful to the staff at Friendship Village Lakeview Lodge and Lakeview Landing for all their kind care.
