William Hewitt Obituary

1920 - 2007

William M. Hewitt, 87, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in Perry, West Virginia.

Mr. Hewitt was born in 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of the late Ross Grant and Amy Belle Hewitt. He founded a mechanical engineering estimating business in Silver Spring, Maryland and retired after 34 years in 1982.

Mr. Hewitt was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester and was a member of the Colesville, MD Lions Club for twenty-five years. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School in Waterloo Iowa, and a graduate of Catholic University receiving a degree in Architectural Engineering.

Mr. Hewitt was a Veteran of the United States Army with the 601st Ordinance during World War II, serving in North Africa, France and Germany, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

His wife, Charlotte S. Hewitt, whom he married on December 16, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, preceded him in death on October 24, 2005.

Surviving are three daughters: Barbara H. Keech of Winchester, Virginia, Susan H. Hairfield of Powhatan, Virginia, and Sally H. Wolfe of Perry, West Virginia; his son, Gregory W. Hewitt of Winchester, Virginia; and four grandchildren.

His sister Glendora Nelson, and brother, Robert Ross, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Interment will be in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bill and Charlotte Hewitt to the Virginia Tech Foundation, Molecular Cell Biology and Biotechnology Research, Office of University Development (0336), Blacksburg, VA 24061.

Local arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia.
